How to measure your windows for shutters.
Measure the height of your window.
For the most authentic look we recommend measuring only the window opening.
Measure for the shutter height at the left side middle and right side of the window opening from the top of the window to the bottom excluding any window sill.
Measure the opening along the top of the window then measure along the bottom.
If the heights vary at each of these points use the smallest of the three measurements.
I suggest you divide the width of the window opening in half and use that as the width of the shutter panel you would order.

Divide this calculation by two 2 for the individual exterior shutter width.

Measuring windows for shutters is easy.
Measure the width of your window at the position indicated by illustration c.
This dimension can be reduced by 2 without losing any of the visual effects.
Select the largest of the 2 measurements.
This measurement will be the height of the shutter you need to order.
Be sure to add at least 1 inch to both sides so that the shutters can hang properly.
From the top of the sill to at least 1 inch above the window.
Write the width of the opening into your notebook or paper under the appropriate column for that specific opening.

Measure the width of the middle window m start at measure point l and measure to the end of your middle window architrave i e.
If you have a sill that extends at the bottom of the window measure height at the position indicated by illustration d.
Stretch the tape measure across the width of the window or door to its opposite side to determine the correct length.
Mark your measure point l with a pencil.
As each window is not created equal the measurements you take at the top of the window will vary slightly from the one taken along the bottom.
Survey three places and record the narrowest dimension then deduct inch for adequate margin when closing.
