Aluminum and steel siding became popular in the 1950s and 60s as a cost effective choice to cover deteriorated wood siding. Slide the separating tool underneath the bottom edge of the siding piece that is directly above the piece. Both metal siding types often were manufactured with a thin lining of foam designed to increase the insulation value of the siding. Isolate the piece of siding you need to remove and find its outermost edge on either side.

Step 2 removing the nails. The new panel you cut the top lock off scribe just under the lock and snap it off trim height if need to fit. Removing oxidation on siding requires a good cleaning. Slide your zip tool back and forth parallel to the section of steel siding that you have chosen.

Put those away and simply make up a solution of 1 3 cup liquid laundry detergent and 6 gallons of water to use with the pressure washer. Water and electricity don t mix. If not pick a section of siding preferably one at the top or near an edge. You cut the damaged piece out a couple of inches below the top lock of that panel then nail that part down.

Remove the bottom portion of the damaged section. Chemicals you might use on wood or vinyl siding can cause damage to steel. With a heavy duty puddy knife open up a little under the top lock and panel that you left. When siding begins to look dull and lifeless oxidation is the culprit.
