How to replace a rottted facia board and gutter.
Whether you will install gutters by yourself or hire a pro here is what needs to be done.
Use a six in one painter s tool to pry the board away from the wall gently at.
Pull down to remove the old soffit.
Install a new fascia board.
Fixing this soffit gave us a perfect opportunity to upgrade our attic ventilation photos 8 and 9.
This will ensure that the board comes away from the wall without pulling any other components.
Replace rotted lookouts so you have a good nailing surface for your new soffit boards photo 7.
Note that a squirrel had built a large nest above the soffit shown here.
Remove the gutter brackets from your fascia so you can reuse them on the new board.
2 check for damaged boards behind the metal trim.
Unscrew the gutters from behind your existing fascia board with an electric screwdriver.
3 replace rotted fascias preferably with azek board or other pvc trim boards.
Hi i just want to show how to replace gutters and fascia board by yourself without any help.
To start this project use a utility knife to cut all seams and caulk lines around the piece or pieces that you want to replace.
Position the replacement boards over the rafter and secure them using galvanized nails or 2 5 inches 6 4 cm wood screws.
Then locate the brackets underneath your gutter holding them in place and unscrew them so you can lift the gutter up and away from the fascia.
Use a reciprocating saw to chop out the rotted rafter.
Remove the rotted fascia board.
Remove the gutters from the areas where you are going to replace the fascia board.
Remove the rotted section of fascia.
Install new 2x4 lookouts to replace rotted ones or screw a new one to the old one if it s mostly sound.
Be careful not to damage any nearby roof shingles or flashing.
Cut a replacement piece from pressure treated lumber.
