Place a board or a clean flat surface under the tear to keep the canvas flat.
How to sew a rip in an awning.
Draw the edges of the rip as close together as you can.
When you take on fabric awning repair and reinforcing the seams you should use a cross or saddle stitch.
Apply any tape or patch carefully to the canvas once part of the tape is down it should not be removed even if it is on incorrectly.
Begin by stitching around the edges of the rectangle so that there is room on all sides of the tear.
You can either use waterproof glue or sew each patch on.
Once you have the fabric you ll want to sew the path on the underside.
Unlace the awning far enough that you can lift up the corner.
Set your board up under the tear before you get started and flatten the fabric.
Follow the same procedure as for rips in the fabric body cutting your repair fabric long enough and wide enough to extend beyond the rip.
Most awning fabric uses a single or double stitch to seal the seam.
Do not lace the awning corner back on until the glue has set up completely.
Glue it in place from the underside pressing it well.
